This is, of course, the coolest thing in the world.

Apple I BASIC Cassette Tape.

The sound is reminiscent of the Longitudinal Time Code (LTC) inspired sounds I created for The Superstitions Of Witchcraft.

The main difference to my ears is the synchronization mechanism that LTC employs to allow one to figure out where one is in the middle of the data stream. Random access is less critical when reading a file off a cassette tape, but I’m surprised that there wasn’t some syncword involved in files saved from the Apple I and other pre-floppy disk drive computers – especially since LTC is a much older technology.
